Leelamma Ancil

Head of Department - English

Leelamma has been working at OIS for the past three years and has been actively engaged in enriching the lives of the students. She was a senior secondary teacher in Indian School, Bahrain, before joining OIS. She holds a Master’s degree in English Language & Literature and a Bachelor’s degree in Education. She also has a Master’s degree in Social Work. In a diverse career spanning almost 20 years, she has worked in NGOs, colleges and schools in India and the Middle East. Her wide-ranging work experience has had a cumulative effect in shaping and evolving a holistic teaching philosophy that looks at the learner as an individual. She believes that literature offers masterclasses in life that act as springboards to meaningful dialogues about life’s bigger questions. The opportunity to engage with students and help them participate in empowering activities is one of the reasons she loves the teaching profession. As an integral part of the wellbeing team, she is happy that she can help students extend the lessons learned in classrooms to real life.

As subject coordinator for English in Middle School, Leelamma believes in following and sharing good practices, empowering her team, and facilitating communication with the senior leadership team. She was awarded with Best Teacher of the year award in 2021 for her contribution to the academic enrichment and wellbeing of students. A lifelong knowledge seeker, she hopes to keep contributing to the teaching learning experience at OIS.
